Chungbuk Office of Education Holds Forum on AI Ethics and Public Education Revitalization with Participation from Teachers and Parents

The Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education held the "2026 Chungbuk AI Education Forum" at the Education and Culture Center of Cheongju National University of Education, with approximately 150 attendees including teachers, students, and parents from across the province, to discuss ways to utilize AI within the public education system.

With "Designing AI Literacy into the Curriculum" as its core theme, this forum was organized to establish a roadmap for the future of public education amidst a rapidly changing AI technology environment and to cultivate the capacity for students to proactively handle AI based on a sound ethical awareness. The event held particular significance as it is part of a continuous project aimed at establishing the "Chungbuk-type AI Ethics Standards," enacted in 2025, into actual school curricula and instruction.

During the event, Professor Ahn Seong-jin of Sungkyunkwan University, who served as the keynote speaker, examined changes in the classroom environment resulting from the introduction of generative AI and emphasized the necessity of AI ethics education to prepare for side effects such as deepfakes and the misuse of technology. Following this, Professor Choi Hyun-jong of Korea National University of Education presented a future vision for AI education based on the ‘Chungbuk-type AI Literacy Framework,’ while Professor Lee Han-jin of Cheongju National University of Education introduced practical AI ethics education methods that can be immediately applied in the field.

During the subsequent Q&A and discussion session, teachers, parents, and students participated directly, freely exchanging ideas on the development direction of AI education in Chungbuk and concrete measures for establishing AI literacy within public education.

In an interview, Yoon Gun-young, Superintendent of the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education, stated, "As artificial intelligence technology advances, unique human thinking skills, critical judgment, and the ability to handle technology for the right purposes become increasingly emphasized." He added, "We will listen to voices from the field to complete the Chungbuk-type AI education, ensuring that literacy and ethical awareness—which involve objectively understanding the characteristics and limitations of AI—are systematically integrated into the school curriculum."
