Cheongju City Council Urban Construction Committee Discusses Ways to Incorporate Advanced Technologies Through Site Visit to COEX Mobility Exhibition
The Cheongju City Council inspected future mobility sites to respond to the rapidly changing technological environment and enhance the mobility convenience of citizens.
On the 26th, the Cheongju City Council Urban Construction Committee visited the '2026 Autonomous Mobility Industry Exhibition' held at COEX in Seoul to identify the latest technological trends and conduct a site visit aimed at integrating them into Cheongju City's transportation administration. Approximately 20 people participated in the visit, including members of the Urban Construction Committee, staff from the Council Secretariat, and officials from the Cheongju City Transportation Policy Division and Public Transportation Division, creating a venue for organic communication and cooperation between the Council and the executive branch.
The visiting delegation closely examined a diverse range of cutting-edge technologies and actual application cases, ranging from core autonomous driving technologies to AI-based software, precision maps, future mobility services, unmanned and logistics robots, and smart transportation infrastructure. In particular, this site visit was conducted with the aim of enhancing the implementation of the 'Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Master Plan (2026–2035)' established by Cheongju City last July. Under this plan, Cheongju City intends to prioritize the expansion of daily life-oriented traffic safety services by 2028, followed by the phased construction of future infrastructure—such as autonomous public transportation, Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS), and Urban Air Mobility (UAM)—starting in 2029.
The Urban Construction Committee examined the latest technologies currently being implemented in industrial sites to assess the pace of change in the urban transportation environment, and engaged in intensive discussions on realistic policy directions that align with Cheongju City's regional conditions.
At the site, Shin Min-soo, Chairman of the Urban Construction Committee, assessed that autonomous driving and future mobility are key elements that transform the entire urban transportation system and citizens' daily lives, going beyond mere changes in modes of transport. He stated that this field trip served as a valuable opportunity to verify the application of new technologies and to deliberate on policies suited to Cheongju City's specific circumstances. He went on to emphasize that the essence lies in helping citizens move more safely and conveniently, rather than the introduction of new technology itself, and stated that he would reflect the insights gained from the field in his legislative activities to work with the executive branch to enhance Cheongju City's future transportation competitiveness.
Based on the information and best practices collected during this field trip, the Urban Construction Committee of the Cheongju City Council plans to review the city's major transportation policies from various angles and continuously identify policy alternatives to improve traffic safety and convenience that citizens can experience firsthand.
