Jecheon City Gains Momentum for Improving Settlement Conditions by Securing Project to Improve Living Conditions in Vulnerable Urban and Rural Areas

Selected for Saetteul Village Project for 4 Consecutive Years

Jecheon City has once again been named to a government public competition project aimed at significantly improving settlement conditions in marginalized areas characterized by poor living environments and insufficient infrastructure.

Jecheon City announced that one urban area and one rural area within its jurisdiction were finally selected for the Saetteul Village Project, a project to improve living conditions in vulnerable areas organized by the Local Government Era Committee. With this selection, Jecheon City has achieved the remarkable feat of being chosen for the Saetteul Village Project for four consecutive years, enabling it to further accelerate housing environment improvement projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents in underdeveloped areas.

The two selected sites are Sinwol-dong 2-tong and 3-tong in the urban area and Susan 1-ri in Deoksan-myeon in the rural area. Accordingly, urban-style redevelopment will be implemented in Sinwol-dong 2-tong and 3-tong over the next five years, with a total project cost of approximately 1.7 billion won invested starting next year. Meanwhile, rural-style living conditions improvement projects will be carried out in Susan 1-ri, Deoksan-myeon, with a total of approximately 2.2 billion won provided over four years. Based on the secured total of approximately 3.9 billion won in funding, Jecheon City plans to continue phased redevelopment work every year.

The Saetteul Village Project is a government-wide support initiative designed to ensure a minimum quality of life for residents in areas with a high concentration of aging housing and weak disaster prevention infrastructure by expanding basic living infrastructure, such as water and sewage systems and access roads to Jincheon, and establishing disaster prevention facilities. Jecheon City has decided to utilize the secured funds to focus investment on renovating aging houses, repairing public water and sewage systems, and expanding village safety infrastructure, including fire fighting facilities and safety railings. In addition, the city plans to enhance the sustainability of the project by operating resident capacity-building programs to help residents cultivate and maintain their villages on their own. Jecheon City’s selection for this public competition for four consecutive years is interpreted as a result of the government deeply recognizing the systematic experience and concrete achievements the city has accumulated in improving vulnerable areas. Jecheon City has decided to continue carrying out related projects without interruption to resolve the practical living inconveniences of the housing-vulnerable and to promote balanced urban development.

A Jecheon City official stated that thanks to the selection for this project, they will be able to provide a pleasant and safe living environment to residents of underdeveloped areas who have long suffered inconveniences due to being neglected in development. The official added that they will communicate closely with village residents and actively reflect their opinions throughout the entire improvement process to ensure the project is completed without any setbacks.
