Jeonnam Office of Education Successfully Concludes ‘J-Startup School (2nd Cohort) Expanded Track’… Fostering Entrepreneurial Dreams in Pangyo
16 High School Teams Participated; Programs Went from Startup Visits to IR Pitching and Expert Consulting; Scheduled to Bear Fruit with a Mock Investment Briefing in December After Going Through Preliminary and Expanded Tracks, Intensive and Advanced Tracks
(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeollanam-do Office of Education conducted practical entrepreneurship education in Pangyo, the hub of South Korea's startup scene, for local high school students dreaming of becoming future entrepreneurs.
The Office of Education announced that it operated the ‘J-Startup School (2nd Cohort) Expanded Track,’ a student-participatory entrepreneurship education program, for two days and one night from May 28 to 29 in the Pangyo Techno Valley area of Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do.
A total of approximately 70 people participated in this Expanded Track, including 16 high school teams from within Jeonnam (48 students and 16 collaborating teachers), project leaders, deputy leaders, and management staff. Participants engaged in a diverse range of programs, including startup company visits, the Central Startup Experience Center Challenge Program, special lectures by entrepreneurs, and expert consulting and team project refinement activities.
Based on the results of the preliminary track activities held on May 9, this course was structured around a stage where students reviewed their team projects and developed their ideas into concrete business models.
Students directly experienced the dynamic startup ecosystem of Pangyo Techno Valley while also gaining an understanding of how their ideas are validated in the actual market and evaluated by investors through the Central Startup Experience Center program.
In particular, the students drew attention by personally composing and presenting IR (Investor Relations) pitching materials based on their team projects. Through subsequent expert consulting, they received sharp assessments of the feasibility, marketability, and differentiation of their business models, and refined their ideas by receiving customized feedback to improve their projects.
The special lectures by entrepreneurs, which offered firsthand insights from the field, also received a great response. For this lecture, the CEO of a food upcycling startup served as the instructor, sharing their startup experiences and real-world business operation cases. The instructor introduced a case study demonstrating how new value was created by utilizing surplus agricultural products from local farms, emphasizing that "startups can go beyond simple idea proposals and lead to the resolution of local problems and the creation of social value."
Based on the experiences of experts currently active in the startup field, the students redesigned their project directions and execution strategies, confirming the confidence and potential that their ideas could lead to actual startups.
Jeon Seong-ah, Head of Career Education, stated, "Students had a valuable opportunity to directly experience the growth process of startups and the entrepreneurial ecosystem at Pangyo Techno Valley, and to develop their ideas into actual business models through IR pitching and expert consulting." She added, "We will continue to provide unwavering support at every stage to ensure that students' projects lead to practical entrepreneurial experiences."
Meanwhile, following this expanded track, the Jeonnam Office of Education plans to consecutively launch the "Immersion Track" and the "Advanced Track," which involves exploring overseas startup ecosystems, during the summer vacation. Subsequently, in December, they will hold the "J-Startup Mock Investment Briefing" to share the operational achievements to date.
The Provincial Office of Education plans to systematically support the cultivation of Jeonnam-style future entrepreneurial talent through this step-by-step process, which will last for a total of eight months, ranging from the discovery of startup ideas to the verification of commercialization models.
