Jeonnam-Gwangju Transition Planning Committee Intensifies ‘On-site and Online’ Citizen Communication… Accelerating Preparations for Launch of Integrated Special City
‘On-site Transition Committee’ Activated in Mokpo and Yeosu… Initiating the Discovery of Effective, Field-Oriented Policies - Online Platform ‘Special City Citizen Imagination Roadmap’ Launched… Any Citizen Can Participate as a Policy Designer - Mayor-elect Min Hyung-bae Accelerates Review of Key Pending Issues by Personally Overseeing Women’s and Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Sectors
(Break News Gwangju·Jeonnam) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Ahead of the launch of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Transition Planning Committee (hereinafter the Transition Planning Committee) has embarked on full-scale citizen communication efforts spanning both online and offline channels.
The Transition Planning Committee announced that from the 23rd to the 24th, it is operating an ‘On-site Transition Committee’ in Mokpo and Yeosu to directly listen to the vivid voices of citizens, while simultaneously accepting policy proposals from citizens through the online citizen participation platform, ‘Special City Citizen Imagination Roadmap.’
This series of communication initiatives was organized to realize "citizen sovereignty," a core value of the Integrated Special City, and to establish a "participatory municipal administration" where citizens directly design the future.
The "On-site Transition Committee" will be held on the 23rd in the Mokpo area (Mokpo National University Namak Campus) and on the 24th in the Eastern area (Jeonnam National University Yeosu Campus), respectively. Members of the seven subcommittees and working-level staff of the Great Transformation Planning Committee will participate in large numbers to directly listen to the diverse opinions and policy proposals of local citizens.
Mayor-elect Min Hyung-bae, who has recently been continuing the dialogue with citizens titled "Citizen Min Hyung-bae Listens to the Special City Citizens," is also contributing to these on-site communication efforts. Mayor-elect Min is scheduled to engage in dialogues with citizens regarding the women's sector in Mokpo on the 23rd and the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector in Yeosu on the 24th. Along with this, Mayor-elect Min plans to personally oversee pending issues by visiting key local sites, such as Mokpo South Port and New Port, Haenam Solasido, and the Yeosu Island Expo site.
Citizens' ideas are being gathered not only offline but also in online spaces. Any citizen can freely propose policy ideas for the future vision of the unified special city and regional development through the online platform "Special Citizen Imagination Roadmap."
Submitted proposals will be utilized for policy development following a process of discussion among citizens, and will be actively reflected in campaign pledge implementation plans and future city administration after in-depth review by subcommittees. The Great Transformation Planning Committee envisions comprehensively reviewing citizens' opinions gathered through online and offline channels to serve as a foundation for preparing for the launch of the unified special city.
Yoon Nan-sil, Chairperson of the Citizen Sovereignty Committee, stated, "The future of the unified special city is designed by citizens and completed on-site," adding, "We will listen directly to citizens' voices on-site and gather their imagination online to design the future of the unified special city together." He added, “The proposals and participation of each and every citizen will be the starting point that drives the 9th popularly elected Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City,” and urged active participation.
Meanwhile, online citizen policy proposals will be accepted until the end of June, and you can participate by searching for ‘Special Citizen Imagination Roadmap’ on the portal site Naver.
