Preliminary Candidate Jang Gwan-ho Joins National Democratic Progressive Superintendent Candidates for ‘Great Transformation in Education’

Announces 5 Major Tasks in Gwanghwamun, Seoul... Emphasizes “Resolving Entrance Exam Competition and Balanced Development of Regional Universities” - Confirms National Solidarity as the Unified Candidate Chosen by Citizens of Jeonnam and Gwangju

(Break News Gwangju·Jeonnam) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Jang Gwan-ho, a preliminary candidate for the Democratic Progressive Superintendent of Education in the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, has joined hands with democratic progressive candidates from across the country to embark on a joint initiative to resolve educational issues.

Candidate Jang Gwan-ho attended the ‘Press Conference Announcing Joint Pledges for Great Transformation in Education by Democratic Progressive Superintendent Candidates for the 2026 Superintendent Election,’ held at 11:00 AM on the 12th in front of the Statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin in Gwanghwamun Square, Seoul. This press conference was organized to express the determination of candidates in the democratic progressive camp to overcome the ills of a society centered on academic credentials and to realize the normalization of public education.

In particular, this event served as a symbolic occasion to confirm nationwide that Candidate Jang, who was elected through a 100% public opinion poll in the Jeonnam and Gwangju regions, is a candidate possessing substantial representativeness for the democratic progressive camp.

On this day, Candidate Jang and other national candidates officially announced five major joint pledges: ▲ normalization of public education by resolving entrance exam competition; ▲ abolition of the university ranking system and balanced development of regional universities; ▲ elimination of high school ranking and substantial standardization; ▲ strengthening of democratic education and guaranteeing the rights of educational stakeholders; and ▲ realization of sustainable education prepared for the future.

Regarding the current entrance examination system, Candidate Jang diagnosed that "deadly competition is driving students into suffering and deepening educational inequality." He emphasized that "relative evaluation must be abolished and transitioned to absolute evaluation by the early 2030s to focus on the growth of each and every student."

Furthermore, regarding the crisis of regional extinction, he stated that "university ranking is a structural issue that threatens the very existence of regions," and declared that "balanced development of regional universities must be achieved through the expansion of joint degree programs and substantial financial support." Regarding the educational direction of the integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City, he added, “We will prevent the emergence of another privileged school system during the integration process,” and “We will establish a horizontal and equal education system for all students and strengthen the foundation for collaborative governance.”
