Three Billion Sees 68% Increase in Q1 Revenue… Growth Continues Driven by Expanding Overseas Diagnostic Demand

AI-based rare disease diagnostic company Three Billion continued its earnings growth in the first quarter, driven by expanding global demand for genetic testing.

Three Billion disclosed that its consolidated revenue for the first quarter of this year was 3.36 billion won, a 68% increase compared to the same period last year. The operating loss was 1.66 billion won, a 16% decrease from the same period last year, and the net loss also fell by 14% to 1.47 billion won. The company explained that it continued the trend of improving its profit and loss structure along with double-digit revenue growth even in the first quarter, which is a seasonal off-peak period.

These results are attributed to the steady expansion of demand for WES (whole-exome) and WGS (whole-genome) based genetic testing in the global rare disease diagnostic market. Overseas sales accounted for 71% of total revenue, with continued demand for diagnostics from medical institutions in approximately 75 countries, including South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

The rare disease diagnosis business targeting Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), which has been expanding since last year, also contributed to performance growth along with the expansion of domestic and international supply.

Expansion of new businesses based on WGS

Three Billion expanded its business portfolio in the first quarter of this year by launching 'Family Insight,' a new family-based testing service for asymptomatic individuals with a family history of genetic diseases.

This explains that the scope of services has been expanded from the existing business focused on diagnosing rare disease patients to the realm of preventive genetic testing.

Starting from the second quarter, additional revenue expansion is expected as participation in domestic and international pilot projects and government tenders related to WGS-based newborn screening begins in earnest. The supply contract for WGS-based genetic testing signed with Pusan National University as part of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's rare disease diagnosis support project was also renewed this year, and related performance results are expected to be reflected sequentially.

"The first quarter was a period in which we confirmed our business strength by achieving both sales growth and profit improvement simultaneously, even during the off-season," said Geum Chang-won, CEO of Three Billion. "We will continue our annual growth trend based on expanding global demand for WES and WGS and our new inspection lineup."

Meanwhile, Three Billion completed a 30 billion won investment in a mixed CB and CPS structure last April, securing a financial foundation for global business expansion and the advancement of AI-based new drug development.

Three Billion

Three Billion
