Danyang County Pilots 3D Orthophotos to Enhance Reliability of Cadastral Resurvey

Danyang County has set out to establish a more accurate and intuitive land boundary verification system by piloting the introduction of 3D orthophotos into its cadastral resurvey project.

The county announced that it will proceed with a pilot project utilizing 3D orthophotos for the 2026 cadastral resurvey project areas: Danyang Gichon, Danseong Yangdang, and Danseong Yangdang 2.

The cadastral resurvey project is designed to clarify land boundaries by correcting discrepancies between registered details in cadastral records and actual land use, thereby protecting residents' property rights and increasing land use efficiency.

However, until now, explanation methods centered on two-dimensional flat data have had limitations in adequately conveying the actual shape, topography, and usage status of the land.

Consequently, significant administrative resources and additional explanations have been required during the processes of resident explanations, on-site verification, and boundary consultations. Accordingly, the county plans to actively utilize 3D orthophotos through this pilot project for on-site inspections and boundary consultations, as they allow for a three-dimensional and intuitive verification of topography and land conditions.

3D orthophotos have the advantage of enabling landowners to easily understand the current situation, as they can realistically represent the elevation of the actual terrain and the surrounding environment.

The county expects that this will enhance the efficiency of boundary consultations and reduce confusion that may arise during the project implementation process, thereby enabling faster and smoother project execution.

In addition, the county is assisting landowners in understanding the process by conducting preliminary appraisals in parallel, a procedure that has been in effect since 2024.

Preliminary appraisals contribute to increasing residents' predictability and building trust in the overall project by providing advance notice of expected land value fluctuations during the cadastral resurvey process.

The pilot introduction of 3D orthophotos and the parallel implementation of preliminary appraisals are expected to strengthen both visual explanatory capabilities and advance notification functions, thereby contributing to the more stable and systematic execution of the cadastral resurvey project. The county plans to continue incorporating digital technology into the field of cadastral resurveying to expand field-oriented administrative innovation and to gradually implement more precise and efficient cadastral administration.

A county official stated, "We expect that 3D orthophotos will be of great help in enhancing landowners' understanding of the cadastral resurveying project, as they can display the current state of the land more realistically," adding, "We will continue to actively introduce various policies tailored to changing times to promote a more accurate and trustworthy cadastral resurveying project."
