Goesan-gun Songmyeon District Selected for Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ ‘Universal Paddy Water Supply System Construction Project’
Goesan-gun, North Chungcheong Province, announced on the 24th that the ‘Songmyeon District’ in Samsong-ri, Cheongcheon-myeon, has been finally selected as a new district for the ‘Universal Paddy Water Supply System Construction Project’ organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
With this selection, the county plans to invest a total of 13.5 billion won to establish a water supply system covering an area of 120.0 hectares.
The purpose of this project is to promote improved agricultural productivity and increased farm income by establishing a water supply infrastructure that enables the cultivation of diverse crops, such as greenhouse horticulture, moving away from monoculture cultivation centered on rice.
The county explained that the Songmyeon District was named one of the two final districts selected out of 15 applicant districts nationwide following a comprehensive evaluation that considered project feasibility, implementation conditions, and resident response. In particular, the project was evaluated as highly suitable due to the recent spread of field crop cultivation utilizing paddy fields, and residents' willingness to participate in the transition to facility-based cultivation was also assessed as very high.
The plan involves constructing new pumping stations and booster stations, installing water purification facilities and reservoirs, and creating water transmission pipelines (1 set, 100m) and irrigation canals (63 sets, 21,880m).
Through this, the aim is to expand a stable production base that enables double cropping of high-income crops such as watermelons and cucumbers.
County Governor Song In-heon stated, "This project will establish a foundation for a stable water supply capable of responding to changes in the agricultural environment, such as climate change and drought," adding, "We will do our utmost to improve farm income and strengthen regional agricultural competitiveness by transitioning to a farming system centered on facility-based cultivation."
Meanwhile, the construction project will be fully implemented starting with the 2026 basic survey conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
