(Gwangju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Gwangju Metropolitan City is embarking on a full-scale effort to cultivate talent equipped with professional capabilities to keep pace with the rapidly growing pet industry market.

Gwangju City announced that it will conduct the ‘2026 Companion Animal Professional Training Program’ to respond to the demand for pet care and secure professional personnel within the region.

This training program features a practical curriculum, and recruitment is open for a total of three courses (11 participants). Specifically, the programs include: ▲ an integrated course for obtaining Pet Sitter and Companion Animal Caregiver certifications ▲ a Companion Animal Behavior Instructor (Level 2) course ▲ and a Companion Dog Instructor (Level 2 and 3) course.

First, the ‘Integrated Course for Pet Sitters and Companion Animal Caregivers’ is recruiting five young adults aged 19 to 39 residing in Gwangju. Selected trainees will receive full financial support for the tuition required to obtain the certification.

Those wishing to participate should submit their application via email by May 6, along with a copy of their resident registration certificate, application form, and self-introduction letter. Detailed recruitment information can be found on the Gwangju Youth Integrated Platform, and the city plans to notify the final selected candidates individually in May following a document review.

For the ‘Companion Animal Behavior Instructor (Level 2)’ and ‘Companion Dog Instructor (Level 2 & 3)’ courses, which require a high level of technical skills and knowledge, six participants will be selected through recommendations from heads of companion animal departments at local universities. The application deadline is May 1.

Bae Gwi-suk, Head of the City’s Agriculture and Animal Policy Division, stated, “As the companion animal industry grows, the demand for trustworthy experts has significantly increased,” adding, “We hope that the talents produced through this training will establish themselves as key players leading a mature companion animal culture in the region.”
