(Gwangju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency has entered a full-scale election security system ahead of the nationwide simultaneous local elections to be held on June 3.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it opened 'Integrated Election Security Situation Rooms' simultaneously at its headquarters and five police stations within its jurisdiction on the 20th, the day before the start of the election campaign.
The newly opened Integrated Election Security Situation Rooms will operate 24 hours a day without interruption until all vote counting is completed on the 3rd of next month. The Situation Room will serve as a control tower to oversee and direct all security matters related to the election, including managing safety at campaign rallies, protecting the personal safety of key figures, escorting ballot boxes, and maintaining order at polling and vote counting stations.
The police plan to mobilize a large force of approximately 4,100 officers to ensure safety during the election period. In addition to significantly strengthening patrols around ballot storage areas and polling stations, armed police officers will be deployed along specific routes during the return of ballot boxes. Furthermore, police forces will be concentrated at the five vote counting stations within the jurisdiction to prepare for any contingencies.
Choi Yun-seok, Head of the Security Division at the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency, emphasized, "We will not only ensure the personal safety of candidates but also strictly deal with illegal acts such as election interference. We will concentrate our security capabilities to actively support a safe and fair election."
