SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won revealed the signatures of global Big Tech leaders left on his wrist cast, highlighting the artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor cooperation network.
Chairman Chey posted on social media (SNS) on March 25, “I’m uploading this to commemorate taking off my cast,” and wrote, “Thanks to friends who signed it on every business trip, wishing me a speedy recovery, I’ve grown fond of the cast.”
He sustained a hairline fracture in his wrist while playing tennis with his children and subsequently wore a cast for approximately 8 weeks while carrying out his overseas schedule.
The photos revealed by Chairman Chey show key figures such as Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA; Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google; and Masayoshi Son, Chairman of SoftBank Group, directly signing the cast or leaving messages of support.
These scenes are known to have been captured when Chairman Chey visited places like Silicon Valley and Seattle in the United States last month.
Notably, during the so-called ‘Chimaek gathering’ (a casual get-together with chicken and beer) held in Silicon Valley, CEO Jensen Huang personally left his signature, revealing their close relationship.
Industry observers interpret this move as a strategic message beyond mere personal daily sharing. In a situation where global Big Tech companies are competing to build AI infrastructure, it symbolically revealed their relationship with SK Hynix, a key memory supplier.
Recently, with the spread of AI, demand for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) has surged, intensifying the supply shortage. Major companies, including NVIDIA, Google, and Meta, are strengthening cooperation with suppliers to secure stable HBM and DDR5.
In this situation, Chairman Chey’s direct visits to the sites despite his injury are interpreted as a move to solidify trust with key clients. The signatures left on the cast, beyond simple encouragement, are being evaluated as a scene symbolizing supply chain partnerships.
