The Financial Services Commission announced on March 26 that the Fund Management Deliberation Committee of the National Growth Fund resolved an agenda item for the Advanced Strategic Industry Fund to directly invest 250 billion won (approximately $166 million) into Rebellions’ “AI (Artificial Intelligence) Semiconductor (NPU · Neural Processing Unit) Mass Production and Next-Generation AI Semiconductor Development Project” as part of the “Fostering K (Korean)-NVIDIA” project.
This marks the fourth approved agenda item and the first direct investment case, following the “Shin-an Ui Offshore Wind Power Generation Project” approved in January, the “Ulsan Next-Generation Secondary Battery Material Plant Construction Project” (ISU Specialty Chemical) and the “Pyeongtaek Line 5 AI Semiconductor Cluster Construction Project” (Samsung Electronics) approved in February, among the seven first-phase mega-projects announced in the Financial Services Commission’s work report (December 19, 2025).
The “Fostering K-NVIDIA” project holds significance in that the Financial Services Commission, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and other related bodies collaborate to foster national representative AI semiconductor companies. Rebellions, which received this investment resolution, is a company that has grown since its establishment in 2020 by developing initial products and successfully entering the commercialization phase, based on support through R&D (Research and Development) funds from the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and financial support through funds such as the Semiconductor Ecosystem Fund (Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy · Financial Services Commission).
The government recently held a public-private joint meeting attended by Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Bok-hyun, Vice Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon, and representatives from five domestic AI semiconductor companies (Rebellions, FuriosaAI, DeepX, Mobilint, HyperXcel), where they discussed investment strategies for domestic AI semiconductor companies utilizing the National Growth Fund.
The resolution for fund provision to Rebellions on this day is part of inter-ministerial cooperation, including the “AI Semiconductor Industry Leap Strategy” jointly announced by relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy at the previous meeting and last year’s Ministerial Meeting on Science and Technology Relations. It is evaluated to have significance in discovering the nation’s new growth engines and actively supporting them through pan-ministerial cooperation.
An official from the Financial Services Commission said, “The National Growth Fund plans to additionally approve K-NVIDIA project companies for fostering leading domestic AI companies,” and added, “Along with this, we will continue to discover investment targets to strengthen sovereign AI (autonomous AI control) competitiveness.”
