LS Eco Energy announced on May 7 that its Vietnamese production subsidiary, LS-VINA, has begun the process for international certification and Pre-Qualification (PQ) testing for its 400kV-class extra-high voltage cables.
The company plans to enter full-scale mass production in the second half of next year, following approximately one year of product performance verification and long-term operational reliability assessment. The PQ is a key procedure that evaluates the long-term stability of the entire system on the premise of actual application in a transmission grid, and is considered an essential requirement for proving technological capability in the global market.
LS-VINA, which currently produces cables up to the 230kV-class, will secure an extra-high voltage portfolio comparable to that of LS Cable & System’s headquarters through this project. The 400kV-class cable is a high-value-added product line used in key infrastructure requiring large-capacity power, such as national backbone transmission networks, large-scale industrial complexes, and AI data centers. It is considered a field with high technological entry barriers, as it demands high efficiency for long-distance transmission and strict quality standards.
Recently, the demand for extra-high voltage cables has been rising sharply as the construction of AI data centers accelerates globally and the replacement cycle for aging power grids in the United States and Europe arrives. The expansion of grid connections for renewable energy sources, such as offshore wind and solar power, is also a major factor driving market growth.
LS Eco Energy has already secured a foothold for entering the North American market by obtaining U.S. certification for its 230kV-class cables. If it also acquires the PQ for the 400kV-class, the company will be qualified to participate directly in bidding for major global transmission grid projects.
An official from LS Eco Energy emphasized, “We will solidify our position in the global power infrastructure market by increasing the proportion of high-value-added products.”
