Hyundai ‘Ioniq 9’
Hyundai Motor Group has received strong recognition in the United States, one of the world’s most competitive auto markets, winning top awards in the hybrid and electric vehicle segments.
Hyundai Motor Group announced on Sunday that it won awards in seven out of 19 categories in the 2026 Best Hybrid and Electric Cars awards by U.S. News & World Report.
The awards evaluate vehicles comprehensively base on quality, fuel efficiency or driving range, safety, and reliability. This year, 138 vehicles were assessed.
Hyundai Motor Group received a total of seven wins, with Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. each taking three categories and Genesis winning one.
For Hyundai Motor, the Ioniq 5 was named Best Compact Electric sport utility vehicle (SUV), while the Tucson Hybrid won Best Compact Hybrid SUV. Both models have now won in their respective categories for three consecutive years.
For Kia, the Niro was selected as Best Subcompact Hybrid SUV, and the Sportage Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) won Best Compact Plug-in Hybrid SUV. The Telluride Hybrid was named Best Midsize Hybrid SUV. Genesis’ GV60 was named Best Compact Luxury Electric SUV, marking its first win.
Kia ‘The all-new Seltos’
Separately, Kia’s compact SUV Seltos has surpassed 2 million units in global cumulative sales about 7 years after its launch. Since its debut in July 2019, cumulative sales reached 2,007,900 units as of last month. It took Kia models such as the Sportage, Sorento, and Soul 13 to 18 years to reach the 2 million mark.
The Seltos’ performance has been driven by a two-track production strategy combining domestic and overseas manufacturing. The company targets emerging markets through its India plant while exporting domestically produced units to North America and Latin America, building a diversified global sales base that reduces reliance on specific regions.
