HK inno.N said Monday it has signed a joint research and development agreement with Atomatrix to develop next-generation obesity treatments using AI-based drug discovery.
The collaboration will focus on identifying small-molecule candidates with new mechanisms of action as alternatives to incretin-based therapies, which dominate the current obesity drug market.
Under the agreement, HK inno.N will lead drug synthesis and biological evaluation, assessing the efficacy and safety of candidate compounds, while Atomatrix will design and screen molecules using its proprietary drug discovery platform, CANDDIE.
CANDDIE is a molecular dynamics-based platform that combines AI and computer simulations to support drug design. The system is designed to optimize binding stability and pharmacological activity while reducing development time, the company said.
HK inno.N said the partnership is part of its effort to expand beyond incretin-based drugs, which are associated with side effects such as gastrointestinal issues and muscle loss.
“We are advancing non-incretin-based therapeutics that can address the limitations of existing obesity treatments,” said Park Byung-chul, head of HK inno.N’s New Drug Research Institute. “We aim to identify promising candidates and accelerate their progression into development.”
Atomatrix CEO Lee Eun-ho said combining data-driven analysis with physics-based simulation is critical for complex biological targets.
