The Hanwha Culture Foundation will host a solo exhibition by artist Lim Young-Joo, titled <The Late故>, from May 15 to July 25 at Space Zero One, its non-profit exhibition space in New York.
Artist Lim Young-Joo has reinterpreted universal themes such as faith and anxiety, and life and death, with a contemporary sensibility using diverse media including video and installation. She has established a distinct presence in the domestic and international art scenes, having won the 2025 Frieze Artist Award and been selected as a sponsored artist for the Korea Artist Prize by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. This New York exhibition will unveil both an installation work that reconfigures her previous major pieces and the results of in-depth research conducted during her residency.
The exhibition’s centerpiece, <The Late故>, is regarded as a work that encapsulates the thematic consciousness the artist has long explored. It is expected to offer visitors an opportunity for deep contemplation by providing a multi-faceted examination of the systems of belief and the uncertainty of perception at work in our society today.
Space Zero One was established by the Hanwha Culture Foundation to discover and support promising emerging artists, serving as a bridge connecting contemporary Korean art with the world. It has previously proven its identity and potential for expansion through its inaugural exhibition and a show by Michael Joo, and this solo exhibition by Lim Young-Joo is the third step in this progression. Beyond simply providing exhibition support, it is establishing itself as a practical hub that helps artists in their growth stages to draw an international trajectory.
The foundation anticipates that this exhibition will be a significant inflection point for the artist’s leap into becoming a next-generation mid-career artist. “Space Zero One is a platform that helps artists operate in a broader international context,” emphasized Lim Keun-hye, Exhibition General Director of the Hanwha Culture Foundation. “By introducing Lim Young-Joo’s artistic world to the New York scene, it will be an occasion to affirm the new possibilities of Korean art.”
