North Chungcheong Province and Chungbuk Technopark Hold Launch Ceremony for ‘Central Region Innovation Cluster Promotion Team’ Encompassing Four Cities and Provinces in the Chungcheong Region

North Chungcheong Province and Chungbuk Technopark held a launch ceremony for the Central Region Innovation Cluster Promotion Team at Cheongju OSCO, attended by representatives from the four central region local governments—North Chungcheong, South Chungcheong, Daejeon, and Sejong—as well as members of the promotion team and local innovation companies. This ceremony served as an opportunity for central region local governments to solidify their unity to move beyond individual competition and create a single, massive innovation ecosystem. It also signifies the full-scale operation of a supra-regional promotion system in which the four cities and provinces cooperate and link, centered around the lead organization, Chungbuk Technopark.

The core sector to be fostered by the Central Region Innovation Cluster is the urban mobility demonstration industry. The approach involves integrating the specialized industries possessed by each local government—such as Daejeon’s smart safety industry, Sejong’s autonomous driving platform, South Chungcheong’s hydrogen energy, and North Chungcheong’s intelligent advanced components—into a single massive value chain. Accordingly, the task force, comprised of 15 industry-academia-research institutions including technoparks in four regions, regional industry promotion agencies, and industry-academia collaboration units at major universities, plans to enhance the competitiveness of strategic industrial sectors by implementing technology development and corporate support programs.

In the R&D sector, the task force will accelerate the development of core pivotal technologies for specialized industries—such as high-efficiency power semiconductor packaging, smart disaster safety platforms, and heterogeneous mobility integrated operation solutions—and conduct global-level integrated demonstrations, with the goal of advancing regional innovation clusters and promoting open innovation at hub institutions. Support for non-R&D fields to foster the ecosystem will also be diversified to actively attract forward and backward-linked anchor companies and to facilitate the matching of convergence partners across different industries by integrating regional innovation resource data into a unified platform. Furthermore, the task force plans to intensively cultivate practical talent tailored to corporate needs by operating customized contract labs in conjunction with local universities, and to drive the full-cycle growth of promising innovative companies through technology commercialization package support and the establishment of global cooperation networks. Choi Yeon-gyu, Director of the Industrial Promotion Division of Chungcheongbuk-do, emphasized regarding the launch that the Central Region Innovation Cluster is a massive challenge that will change the paradigm of Korea's future mobility industry by combining the distinct industrial strengths of the four cities and provinces. He added that he would actively support Chungbuk Technopark as the lead organization to create a successful model of super-regional cooperation.
