【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=청주대가 미국 현지 명문 대학들과 연이어 손을 잡으며 글로벌 교육 네트워크 확장과 우수 외국인 유학생 유치에 적극적인 행보를 보이고 있다.
청주대는 최근 총장을 비롯한 대학 방문단이 미국 샌프란시스코와 로스앤젤레스를 직접 찾아 샌프란시스코 주립대학교, 캘리포니아 예술학교와 각각 국제교류 협정을 체결했다.
샌프란시스코 주립대학교에서 열린 협정식에는 에이미 수에요시 부총장 등 현지 대학 관계자 4명이 참석했으며, 캘리포니아 예술학교에서 진행된 행사에는 마이크 브라이언트 부총장을 포함한 5명의 관계자가 참석해 양 기관의 협력 방안을 논의했다.
이번 협약에 따라 청주대는 협정을 맺은 미국 대학들과 단순한 학술 교류를 넘어 양교 학생 교류, 공동 교육 프로그램 운영 등 다채로운 국제 교류 사업을 추진할 예정이다.
청주대 측은 현재 대학 내에 37개국 출신 4천100여 명의 유학생이 최첨단 도서관과 하이플렉스 강의실 등 우수한 교육 환경에서 학업에 전념하고 있다고 설명했다. 아울러 실시간 강의 자막 및 번역 서비스 프로그램 등 선진화된 시스템을 지원하고 있으며, 향후 외국인 유학생들이 글로벌 인재로 성장할 수 있도록 아낌없는 지원을 이어가겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.
한편 1899년 설립된 샌프란시스코 주립대학교는 미국 캘리포니아주 샌프란시스코에 위치한 4년제 공립대학으로 65개 학과에 2만1천여 명의 학생이 재학 중이다. 로스앤젤레스에 위치한 캘리포니아 예술학교는 1961년 세계적인 예술가 월트 디즈니가 설립한 4년제 사립대학으로, 28개 학과에서 1천400여 명의 학생이 재학하며 세계적 수준의 예술 교육을 제공하고 있다.
