Total Scale of Over 1 Billion Won; Employment Promotion Scholarships Expanded by 30%, New Selection Category for Families of Victims of the ‘Yeosu-Suncheon Incident’

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province and the Jeonnam Human Resources and Lifelong Education Promotion Agency have launched the recruitment for the ‘2026 First Half Jeonnam Talent Development Scholarship’ to support the growth and stable settlement of talents who will lead the region’s future.

The total scale of scholarship support for this first half amounts to 1.005 billion won across 14 categories. The specific number of recipients selected is a total of 845, including: 338 recipients for the ‘Jeonnam Talent Scholarship’ (5 types) focused on academic excellence and welfare; 104 recipients for the ‘Jeonnam Settlement Scholarship’ (1 type) encouraging regional employment; and 403 recipients for the ‘Special Designation Scholarship’ (8 types) supporting specific fields and social groups. This year, in particular, the focus has shifted beyond simple tuition support to creating an environment where talented local individuals can stay and work in Jeonnam. To this end, the number of recipients for the "Jeonnam Settlement (Employment Promotion) Scholarship" has been significantly increased by 30% compared to last year, aiming to simultaneously address the crisis of regional decline and stabilize youth employment.

Changes aimed at realizing social values and enhancing equity are also notable. Starting with this recruitment round, the support system has been strengthened by establishing the "Equal Opportunity Scholarship" to guarantee the educational rights of bereaved families of the victims of the "Yeosu-Suncheon 10·19 Incident" and to heal their historical wounds.

Furthermore, eligibility has been expanded beyond currently enrolled students to include "out-of-school youth," taking the lead in eliminating educational blind spots to ensure that all youth in Jeonnam can enjoy learning opportunities without discrimination.

Eligibility is limited to elementary, middle, high school, and university students whose own or their guardian (parents or custodians) has resided in Jeollanam-do for at least one year as of the announcement date. Scholarship applications will be accepted until May 15. Those wishing to apply can register online through the Jeonnam Human Resources and Lifelong Education Promotion Agency website or submit documents by visiting the local Eup, Myeon, or Dong Community Center in their area of residence.

An official from the Jeonnam Human Resources and Lifelong Education Promotion Agency stated, "We hope this scholarship will motivate students to focus on their studies and serve as a catalyst for the local community to secure outstanding talent," adding, "We will continue to identify practical support measures to help young people in Jeonnam cultivate their dreams and settle in the region."
