Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Holds ‘Friendship Camp’ to Restore Emotional Relationships of Students Victimized by School Violence
Various experiential programs, including water play missions and friendship cake making, were conducted to improve peer relationships and promote psychological stability… Supporting confidence for a positive return to school
(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education organized a meaningful event to comfort the hearts of students who have suffered psychological and emotional difficulties due to school violence and to help them adapt to stable school life.
The Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it successfully held the ‘2026 Friendship Camp’ on the 12th at the ‘Jiseum’ center, with 14 students participating in the first half of 2026. This camp focused on helping students naturally form intimacy through diverse experiential activities with their peers, heal emotional wounds, and restore positive relationships.
The event consisted of participatory programs designed to allow students to communicate without pressure and learn the joy of cooperation. In the morning, team missions involving water guns and water balloons took place outdoors. In a lively atmosphere, participating students cheered each other on and cooperated, breaking down emotional barriers and building intimacy.
Following this, the afternoon program featured "Making Friendship Cakes with Friends." Students shared ideas and incorporated their individual personalities to complete a single cake. As they shared the finished cakes, they enjoyed a heartwarming time of communication, engaging in deep conversations they hadn't been able to have before.
One student participating in the camp shared their thoughts, saying, "I was very anxious and worried about returning to school ahead of the start of the second semester. However, laughing and socializing with my peers has made me feel much lighter and more confident. Now, with a fresh mindset, I feel I can get along well with my friends in a bright and cheerful way." Koo Young-cheol, Head of the Character and Life Education Division at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, emphasized, “I hope this camp served as a valuable opportunity for students to understand one another and build solid trust through deep communication with their peers,” adding, “We will continue to expand and operate customized recovery support programs so that students who have suffered from school violence can restore healthy relationships, regain their self-esteem, and adapt stably to school life.”
