Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Holds Government Award Ceremony for Retiring Teachers in Late August 2026

361 Teachers Receive Medals and Commendations in Recognition of Lifelong Dedication to Education… Superintendent Kim Dae-jung: “Building on the Foundation Created by the Love of Teachers, We Will Complete the K-Education Special City to Lead the Republic of Korea”

(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education organized a meaningful event to encourage the honorable retirement of teachers who have dedicated their lives to nurturing future generations and developing regional education based on a true educational philosophy for decades.

The Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it successfully held the ‘Government Award Ceremony for Retiring Teachers in Late August 2026’ at 2:00 PM on the 27th in the main conference room of the Jeonnam Office Building.

At the event, 361 teachers from schools of all levels in the Jeonnam and Gwangju regions, who are scheduled for mandatory retirement or honorary retirement at the end of this coming August, were awarded government honors—including medals, the Order of Merit for Service, and Presidential and Prime Minister's commendations—in recognition of their contributions.

Approximately 400 people attended the presentation ceremony, including the award recipients and their families who have steadfastly stood by their side, as well as Superintendent Kim Dae-jung, education office officials, and key figures from the local education community. The attendees offered heartfelt applause and congratulations for the dedication of the retiring teachers who have fulfilled their calling as educators while serving on the teaching staff for many years.

Superintendent Kim Dae-jung personally presented the awards to each recipient, shaking hands with the retiring teachers—whose eyes welled up with tears—and conveying his deep respect and gratitude for their hard work. In his congratulatory remarks, Superintendent Kim assessed, “The years you have walked were a noble and great journey in which you prioritized the healthy growth of ‘children’ over your own individuality.” He emphasized, “In this rapidly changing era, our children were able to grow into upright individuals thanks to the warm love and philosophy of our teachers, which can never be replaced by cutting-edge technology or machinery.”

He continued by expressing a strong determination to “organically combine the respective strengths of Jeonnam and Gwangju education upon the solid foundation built through the sweat of teachers in the field.” He stated, “We will establish a unique and sustainable future education model specific to our region and confidently leap forward as a ‘K-Education Special City’ that presents a new standard for Korean education.”

Meanwhile, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education plans to actively pursue various welfare support projects and expand opportunities for retired teachers to participate in educational advisory activities in the future, in order to continuously honor and show respect for the noble dedication of retired teachers who have long served as the roots of the local community while protecting the educational field.
