Fruits of Support from Jeonnam Gwangju Special City… Gwangyang’s ‘Seomjingang-ui Bom’ Accelerates Duty-Free Entry and Overseas Expansion Following Grand Prize at Namdo Tasting Competition

Fruit of Customized Support via the Traditional Food Competitiveness Enhancement Project; Premium Plum Wine ‘Seomjingang-ui Byeol’ Pursues Exports to Germany and the U.S. and Entry into Incheon Airport Duty-Free Shops

(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = ‘Seomjingang-ui Bom,’ a traditional liquor manufacturer in the Gwangyang region that received support from the Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City’s Traditional Food Competitiveness Enhancement Project, is accelerating the expansion of its domestic and international sales channels following its Grand Prize win at the Namdo Traditional Liquor Competition.

Established in 2023, ‘Seomjingang-ui Bom’ is a local manufacturer that has been developing high-quality traditional liquors by actively utilizing local agricultural products. Its flagship product, ‘Seomjingang Baram Oak 40,’ won the Grand Prize at the ‘2025 Namdo Traditional Liquor Competition,’ receiving recognition for its excellent quality and outstanding taste.

Behind these achievements lies the phased, customized support provided by the Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City. This year, the local government selected Seomjingang-ui Bom as a recipient of the "Traditional Food Competitiveness Enhancement Project," providing active support for opening new sales channels by assisting with product R&D, design improvements, brand enhancement, and marketing, as well as supporting participation in traditional liquor fairs.

Thanks to this support, "Seomjingang-ui Byeol," a premium plum sparkling wine launched in March of this year, has attracted the attention of overseas buyers and is actively pursuing entry into the German and U.S. markets. With entry into duty-free shops at Incheon International Airport scheduled for this month, expectations are high for increased brand awareness and a leap into the global market.

This achievement is regarded as a prime example of success created by the synergy between a private company's continuous product development efforts and the local government's customized policy support. The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City plans to further expand support at every stage of growth—ranging from discovering excellent traditional liquors to product premiumization, participation in domestic and international fairs, and export marketing—in order to increase the added value of local agricultural products and solidify the export foundation. Park Sang-mi, Head of the Agricultural Food Distribution Division of Gwangju Metropolitan City, stated, “Systematic support for excellent traditional liquors is yielding tangible results, such as quality recognition and the expansion of domestic and international sales channels.” She added, “We will continue to discover competitive traditional liquors and spare no effort in supporting the local traditional liquor industry so that it can establish itself as a new future growth engine.”
