Digital therapeutic devices have moved beyond the approval stage and have begun to be utilized in actual medical settings. EmoCog's cognitive therapy solution, 'CogThera,' has proven its potential for commercialization by exceeding 1,000 prescriptions within six months of its launch.
Digital healthcare company Emocog (Co-CEOs Lee Jun-young and Noh Yu-heon) announced that its digital therapeutic device 'Cogthera' for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) has been introduced to 68 hospitals and clinics nationwide within six months of its launch, recording 1,000 cumulative prescriptions.
Beyond Approval to 'Actual Prescription'… A Turning Point for the Digital Therapeutic Device Market
Cogthera is a 12-week mobile app-based cognitive therapy program provided on a prescription basis. Since receiving approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety last year, hospital prescriptions have begun in earnest, and significant results regarding the effect of delaying the deterioration of cognitive function have been secured through clinical trials.
Currently, Cogthera is being prescribed in neurology and psychiatry clinics, primarily at major tertiary hospitals such as Severance Hospital, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, and Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital. It is characterized by a design that allows patients to continue treatment at home even after hospital visits.
In particular, given that the domestic digital therapeutic device market is still in a 'licensing-centric' stage, achieving 1,000 actual prescriptions is considered a case that demonstrates acceptance within the medical field. The high rates of patient participation in treatment and continued use are also cited as major factors in its expansion.

Professor Kang Dong-woo of the Department of Psychiatry at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital said, "Mild cognitive impairment is a condition where early management is crucial, but treatment options have been limited," adding, "Cogthera is a realistic alternative that allows patients to continue treatment in their daily lives even after hospital visits."
Based on its domestic prescription success, Emocog is accelerating its entry into the global market. Cogthera has secured European CE certification, completed key procedures for listing on Germany's Digital Therapeutics Guarantee (DiGA), and is currently undergoing review by the German Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (BfArM).
Co-CEO Lee Jun-young stated, “Cogtera is proving the commercialization potential of digital therapeutic devices through actual prescription results in the domestic medical field,” adding, “Based on this, we plan to 본격화 (intensify) our entry into the German market and expansion into the global cognitive healthcare market.”
