“Parenting is not about helping, but about doing it together”… South Jeolla Province Officially Launches ‘8th Term of the 100 Dads’ Corps’

Inauguration Ceremony and Family Olympics Held at Hwasun Eoullim Center… A Great Success with Over 120 Attendees – Leading the Spread of Male Participation in Childcare and a ‘Shared Care’ Culture Through Sharing Parenting Experiences and Play Missions

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province has prepared a venue for dads who will become reliable partners in ‘shared parenting’ to encourage male participation in childcare and spread a social care culture.

South Jeolla Province recently held the ‘2026 8th Term of the South Jeolla 100 Dads Corps Inauguration Ceremony and Challenge! Family Olympics’ with great success at the Hwasun Eoullim Center Gymnasium, signaling the start of full-scale activities to create a South Jeolla where children and fathers are happy together. The "Jeonnam 100 Dads Corps," jointly promoted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Jeollanam-do, and the Korea Population and Health Association, is a representative regional participatory program where novice dads unfamiliar with childcare gather to share their concerns and learn how to communicate with their children.

Approximately 120 people, including the selected members of the 8th Dads Corps and their families, attended the inauguration ceremony, adding to the excitement. The event proceeded substantially, beginning with a photo zone experience capturing the importance of family, followed by the awarding of certificates of appointment, the reading of an oath containing the dads' pledges, and a "co-parenting" performance.

In particular, the card section performance, the highlight of the event, garnered significant resonance from the attendees as fathers and children faced each other to visually express the value of care under the slogan "Children Raised Together, Future Built Together."

The "Challenge! Family Olympics," held following the inauguration ceremony, went beyond a simple commemorative event to become a venue where fathers and children formed deep bonds through physical activity. Families worked up a sweat participating in customized cooperative games such as ring toss and board flipping. Regardless of winning or losing, the process of fathers and children forming a team to strategize and communicate provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen trust and a sense of community within the family.

One father who participated in the event shared his thoughts, saying, “I usually felt sorry for not having enough time to play with my child due to my work life, but today, running and laughing together allowed me to discover a new side of my child.” He added, “I will strive to become a ‘perfect dad’ through the activities of the ‘100 Dads’ group.”

Through the operation of the 8th Dads’ Group, Jeonnam Province plans to accelerate efforts to improve the perception of childcare, shifting it from being the exclusive domain of mothers or an area requiring fathers’ ‘help’ to ‘shared care,’ where parents are equal active participants.

Moving forward, the ‘100 Dads’ Group will develop practical childcare capabilities through diverse programs, including weekly online missions (play, education, housework, etc.), parenting mentoring, and offline experiential activities. Yoon Yeon-hwa, Director of the Population, Youth, and Immigration Bureau of Jeollanam-do, emphasized, “I hope the activities of the ‘100 Dads’ group will serve as an opportunity for children to create precious memories with their fathers and for fathers to realize the joy of child-rearing,” adding, “We will continue to discover tangible childbirth and child-rearing policies and concentrate the provincial administration’s capabilities on creating a ‘Jeollanam-do that is good for having and raising children.’”
