Okcheon-gun Public Health Center Operates 'Chronic Disease Health Point System' to Help Prevent Complications

The Okcheon-gun Public Health Center has introduced and is operating the 'Chronic Disease Health Point System' to support continuous health management and reduce the burden of medical expenses for patients with chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia.

The Chronic Disease Health Point System being promoted is a specialized initiative unique to the Okcheon-gun Public Health Center among all local governments in Chungcheongbuk-do. Its purpose is to extend the healthy lifespan of residents by preventing severe complications, such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, in advance by encouraging patients with chronic diseases to consistently manage their condition without interrupting treatment.

Eligibility applies to residents aged 30 or older with an address or residence in Okcheon-gun who are currently receiving medical treatment for hypertension, diabetes, or dyslipidemia.

When patients participating in the system regularly visit local medical institutions for medication and medical consultations, a certain amount of points are accumulated. By utilizing the points accumulated in this way, participating patients can receive free, burden-free screenings for major complications that may arise from chronic diseases, such as blood tests, electrocardiograms, microalbuminuria tests, and fundus examinations, once a year.

Currently, this health point system is being operated at six designated medical institutions in the Okcheon area: Kim Internal Medicine, Song Internal Medicine, Jang Internal Medicine, Jungang Clinic, Seoul United Orthopedics (Internal Medicine), and Kim Ophthalmology. County residents wishing to participate in the program can apply on-site through these medical institutions without needing to visit the public health center separately.

Regular medical checkups and preventive examinations are essential because neglecting early management of conditions such as hypertension and diabetes carries a very high risk of leading to fatal complications, including stroke, myocardial infarction, kidney disease, and blindness.

An official from the Okcheon County Public Health Center explained that consistent management in daily life is paramount for chronic diseases, and that complications can be effectively prevented through regular checkups. The official added that they hope many county residents will participate in this system, which allows them to simultaneously earn points and enjoy examination benefits with every hospital visit, in order to maintain a healthy life.
