Okcheon Anter Village Hosts the 15th Anter Village Firefly Festival
An ecological festival for early summer nights, where visitors can fully enjoy the beauty of pristine nature, is set to begin in Anter Village, Dong-myeon, Okcheon-gun, North Chungcheong Province.
Okcheon-gun announced that the "15th Anter Village Firefly Festival" will be held until June 6 in the Anter District, a National Ecotourism Site designated by the Ministry of Environment. Hosted by the Anter Village Firefly Festival Promotion Committee, the event will welcome visitors on May 29 and 30, and June 5 and 6.
The festival will kick off with a spectacular opening at 6:00 PM on a special stage in front of the Seoktan 1-ri Village Hall. The event will feature a variety of performances presented jointly by village residents and local artists, as well as quiz programs designed to help visitors learn about the ecology of fireflies. The highlight of the festival, the "Firefly Habitat Tour," operates from 9:30 PM to 11:30 PM, departing from the Seoktan 1-ri Village Hall and offering an in-depth tour of the habitat area around Anter Village.
A wide variety of customized hands-on activities have also been prepared for family visitors. On May 30 and June 6, various free programs designed to stimulate children's five senses will be offered, including pounding Injeolmi rice cakes, art balloons, observing the firefly life cycle, calligraphy, making Dalgona candy, and insect experiences.
In addition, the festival site will feature a wide selection of food prepared with care by the village women's association, such as Pajeon (Korean savory pancakes), fish cakes, Janchi-guksu (feast noodles), and Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), while refreshing barley tea will be provided free of charge. To uphold the spirit of environmental protection and the festival, the organizers encourage visitors to bring their own reusable tumblers.
The participation fee for the tour program, conducted to preserve the ecosystem and habitat, is 10,000 won per person, while children under elementary school age can participate for free. Participation is available only through on-site registration without prior reservation, and the participation fee can be paid in cash or via bank transfer. However, in the event of rain, both the event and the tour schedule will be canceled for safety reasons.
A festival official stated, "The Anter Village Firefly Festival is a representative ecological festival where nature and humans beautifully coexist," adding, "We hope this will be a special time to deeply reflect on the precious value of pristine nature while observing fireflies up close, which are not easily encountered in urban areas."
