Seowon University Professor Kim Jeong-jin Publishes New Book for Hangeul Complete Reading Project for Youth and University Students

Seowon University announced that Professor Kim Jeong-jin of the College of Convergence Studies has published "Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon Lessons for Teens," a liberal arts book designed to help youth and university students independently read and easily understand the Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon—a World Heritage document—from beginning to end.

This newly released book goes beyond the framework of a simple commentary to deeply cover, in a single volume, the life of King Sejong, the secrets of Hangeul creation, the roots of the Korean language, the principles of Hunminjeongeum creation, the 500-year history of Hangeul, and the original text of the Haeryebon. In particular, it aims to be the first "Haeryebon Complete Reading Project" that encompasses not only youth and university students but also foreigners who have just begun learning Hangeul.

The book features a three-dimensional presentation of the original Chinese characters, the Korean phonetic transcription, and a modern Korean translation alongside images of the original Haeryebon. This helps readers visually read and intuitively understand the original text written by King Sejong over 580 years ago. As a result, the book is being evaluated as a new form of interdisciplinary humanities liberal arts text that organically combines history, language, science, and philosophy.

Author Professor Kim Jeong-jin explained the background of his writing, stating that in an era where Korean popular culture leads global trends, education that correctly understands Hangeul—the deepest root of our culture—is urgently needed. He further expressed his hope that through the experience of reading the Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon (Commentary on the Hunminjeongeum) to the very end on their own, teenagers and university students will be able to develop a deep sense of pride in Hangeul and an independent cultural awareness.

Meanwhile, Professor Kim Jeong-jin of Seowon University, who published the new book, has garnered attention from academia and the education community for consistently writing a series of humanities classics for teenagers that simplifies and presents vast and difficult Eastern and Western classics in an easy and engaging way, tailored to the perspective of young people. These works include *Guns, Germs, and Steel for Teens*, *The Analects for Teens*, and *The Prince for Teens*.
