“Promoting the Charms of Namdo’s Culture and Tourism”… Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City Successfully Concludes Culture and Tourism Guide Unity Festival

Over 400 guides from Jeonnam and Gwangju gathered at Muan Government Complex… A venue for celebrating administrative integration and fostering harmony was prepared - A rich array of cultural events was staged, including a digital poetry exhibition, a secondhand flea market, and an encore of the commentary competition - Integrated Mayor Min Hyung-bae stated, “We will actively support efforts to promote the charms of Namdo by weaving together the sea, islands, history, and art.”

(Break News Jeonnam-Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Guides who lead the field of culture and tourism in the newly launched Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, established through administrative integration, gathered in one place to create a venue for exchange and harmony.

On the 28th, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City held the ‘Jeonnam-Gwangju Culture and Tourism Guide Unity Festival’ at the Muan Government Complex in collaboration with the Jeollanam-do Culture and Tourism Guide Association and the Gwangju Culture and Tourism Guide Association. This event was organized to symbolically commemorate the administrative integration of the two regions, share expanded cultural and tourism resources, and strengthen mutual solidarity among tour guides.

Approximately 400 people attended the event, filling the main auditorium. These included Min Hyeong-bae, Mayor of the Integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City; Song Hyeong-gon, Chairman of the Integrated City Council; and cultural and tourism guides active throughout Jeonnam and Gwangju.

The pre-ceremony events held prior to the main event received a great response. They featured the "Digital Camera Poetry Exhibition," where attendees could experience the unique artistic sensibilities of the guides through digital camera poetry, and the "Anabada Market," which promoted resource recycling and neighborly sharing. The subsequent opening ceremony added depth to the event with a theatrical performance of "Mokpo's Four Famous Specialties"—which was presented as an encore after receiving enthusiastic acclaim at the previous competition—along with a heartfelt special commentary performance by a winner of the commentary contest.

The main event featured a variety of talent shows in which the guides participated directly. From Gakseori Pumba plays to moving choral performances and beautiful harmonica playing, tour guides from Jeonnam and Gwangju showcased their long-hidden, versatile talents and passion, creating a time of true harmony where they became one.

In his congratulatory remarks, Min Hyeong-bae, Mayor of the Integrated Special City of Jeonnam and Gwangju, stated, “Through administrative integration, the stage for our cultural tourism guides to convey and introduce Jeonnam and Gwangju on the ground has become much broader and richer.” He urged them to “smoothly weave together the diverse charms of the entire Jeonnam and Gwangju region—ranging from the seas and islands of the South Coast to Gwangju’s art and history, and the delicious food and people of the Namdo region—to present them to visitors.” He further emphasized, “We will spare no administrative or financial support so that the guides, who work on the front lines of cultural tourism, can take pride in their work and widely promote the charms of Jeonnam and Gwangju.”

This One Heart Festival is expected to serve as a significant turning point in elevating regional tourism capabilities to the next level by integrating the cultural and tourism resources of Jeonnam and Gwangju and solidifying the network among the guides.
