기존 계속사업인 △백운-매곡 BRT(452억 6,000만 원)에 더해, 신규 사업으로 △운암-각화 BRT(637억 8,000만 원)와 △효천-일곡 BRT(418억 1,000만 원)가 새롭게 이름을 올렸다.

Construction of 3 BRT Routes Traversing Downtown Gwangju… 150.8 Billion Won Invested
‘Unam-Gakhwa’ and ‘Hyocheon-Ilgok’ Newly Included… Reflected in Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s 2nd Comprehensive BRT Plan; Significant Improvement in Public Transportation Accessibility for the Downtown North-South Axis and Densely Residential Areas Expected
(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The project to construct three Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes traversing downtown Gwangju is set to proceed in earnest.
The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City announced on the 30th that the ‘Unam-Gakhwa BRT’ and ‘Hyocheon-Ilgok BRT’ routes, connecting Gwangju’s West and North Districts and the North-South axis, have been finally reflected in the national plan, the ‘2nd Comprehensive BRT Plan (2026–2030).’
The Comprehensive BRT Plan is a statutory plan established every five years in accordance with relevant laws, containing the mid-to-long-term policy direction and key implementation tasks for BRT over the next five years. The projects in the Gwangju region reflected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's comprehensive plan consist of a total of three routes with a total project cost of 150.85 billion won. In addition to the existing ongoing project, the Baegun-Maegok BRT (45.26 billion won), the Unam-Gakhwa BRT (63.78 billion won) and Hyocheon-Ilgok BRT (41.81 billion won) have been newly added as new projects.
The new route, the ‘Unam-Gakhwa BRT,’ is an 8.4km section connecting Sandong Bridge in Buk-gu to Dodong Pass. It is expected to significantly improve public transportation accessibility in major residential areas such as Unam, Duam, and Gakhwa-dong, and enhance mobility convenience within the city center. The ‘Hyocheon-Ilgok BRT’ is an extension of the existing Baegun-Maegok route, spanning a total length of 6.0 km and connecting the Hyocheon district to the former Daedong High School and Gwangju Technical High School to the Ilgok district. It is expected to strengthen connectivity with other modes of transportation while significantly improving the level of transportation services in the southern region of Gwangju, an area previously underserved by public transport.
An official from the Integrated Metropolitan City stated, "The connection between the existing Baegun-Maegok route and the new route will create a significant synergy effect in establishing a major public transportation trunk network in the Gwangju area," adding, "We will proceed with the project in stages without any setbacks, taking into comprehensive consideration the project's performance and effectiveness."
