[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경상남도가 미국 원전시장 확대에 대응해 도내 원전기업의 현지 공급망 진입과 수출 확대 지원에 나섰다.
경남도는 ‘2026 경남 원전기업 미국 시장개척단’이 지난 19일부터 22일까지 미국 현지에서 활동하며 원전·전력 분야 네트워크 구축과 시장 조사 활동을 진행했다고 밝혔다.
시장개척단에는 도내 원전기업과 함께 한국수력원자력, 두산에너빌리티, 한국원자력산업협회, 경남테크노파크 등이 참여했다.
개척단은 미국 유타주 정부가 주관한 에너지 서밋 행사에서 엔비디아, 테라파워, 오클로, 록키 마운틴 파워, 아이다호 국립연구소 관계자들과 만나 경남 원전산업 기술력과 공급망 협력 가능성을 홍보했다.
경남도는 미국 정부가 AI 산업 확대에 따른 전력 수요 증가에 대응해 2050년까지 원전 설비 용량을 400GW 규모로 확대하는 정책을 추진하면서 국내 원전기업의 미국 시장 진출 가능성이 커지고 있다고 분석했다.
도는 2023년부터 원전 중소·중견기업의 독자 수출 지원사업을 추진 중이며, 지난해에는 도내 기업인 에코파워텍이 이집트 엘다바 원전 관련 265만 달러 규모 수출계약을 체결한 바 있다.
경남도는 대형 원전과 소형모듈원전(SMR) 분야 해외 수주 확대와 미국 수출기업 육성을 중장기 목표로 추진할 계획이다.

In response to the expansion of the US nuclear power market, Gyeongsangnam-do has set out to support local nuclear power companies in entering local supply chains and expanding exports.
Gyeongsangnam-do announced that the "2026 Gyeongnam Nuclear Power Company US Market Exploration Delegation" was active in the US from the 19th to the 22nd, conducting market research and building networks in the nuclear and power sectors.
The delegation included local nuclear power companies as well as Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), Doosan Energyability, the Korea Nuclear Industry Association (KNIA), and Gyeongnam Technopark.
At the Energy Summit hosted by the Utah state government, the delegation met with officials from NVIDIA, TerraPower, Oklo, Rocky Mountain Power, and the Idaho National Laboratory to promote the technological capabilities of Gyeongnam's nuclear industry and potential for supply chain cooperation. Gyeongnam Province analyzed that the potential for domestic nuclear power companies to enter the U.S. market is growing as the U.S. government pursues a policy to expand nuclear power plant capacity to 400 GW by 2050 to meet rising electricity demand driven by the expansion of the AI industry.
The province has been implementing an independent export support program for small and medium-sized nuclear power companies since 2023, and last year, Eco Power Tech, a local company, signed an export contract worth $2.65 million related to the El Dabaa nuclear power plant in Egypt.
Gyeongnam Province plans to pursue the expansion of overseas orders in the fields of large-scale nuclear power plants and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), as well as the nurturing of export companies to the U.S., as mid-to-long-term goals.
