Buddha sculpture honours destroyed Bamiyan monuments
Tuan Andrew Nguyen stands for a portrait next to his sculpture ?The Light That Shines Through the Universe,? a 27-foot-tall carved sandstone Buddha, as it is unveiled as the latest High Line Plinth commission in New York, New York, USA, 24 April 2026. The work pays homage to the ancient Bamiyan Buddhas of Afghanistan, which were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. EPA/Olga Fedorova
