Samsung Electronics and Google unveiled two AI glasses based on ‘Android XR’ at ‘Google I/O 2026’ held at Google headquarters in Mountain View, California, the United States, on May 19 (local time).
This is the first time the actual designs have been revealed since the two companies announced their AI glasses collaboration with global eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker in December last year.
At the event on this day, a model featuring Gentle Monster’s bold and original style and a classic model reflecting Warby Parker’s tradition were respectively unveiled.
Gentle Monster has been leading global fashion eyewear trends with its experimental and sophisticated aesthetics, while Warby Parker is known as a brand that pursues a harmony of everyday comfort and refined design.
The two companies completed a lightweight and sophisticated ‘glasses form factor’ that users can wear at all times without feeling out of place in their daily lives, by integrating Samsung Electronics’ precise hardware technology and Google’s personalized AI services, and combining them with the original designs of their eyewear partners.
The newly showcased AI glasses are ‘companion’ devices that assist the core functions of Galaxy AI phones, designed so that users can enjoy advanced AI experiences in their daily lives without having to take out their smartphones.
The new AI glasses do not have a display, but they are equipped with built-in speakers, cameras, and microphones, allowing them to understand the user’s situation in real time and execute various convenience functions solely through voice commands without cumbersome manipulation.
Users can call upon Google’s AI ‘Gemini’ linked to their smartphones to receive directions to their destination without looking at their smartphones, and can easily proceed with recommendations for nearby cafes or even ordering drinks using only their voice.
In addition, it provides real-time voice translation that reflects the tone of the conversation partner’s voice, as well as translating and reading out text the user is looking at, such as menus or signs.
It summarizes and notifies users of messages received on their smartphones, and schedules can also be added to the calendar using only voice without any separate manipulation.
In particular, the camera mounted on the AI glasses can immediately capture the scene currently being viewed, making it easier to record precious everyday moments.
Kim Jung-hyun, Vice President of the MX Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, “These AI glasses are an important milestone that expands Samsung’s AI vision,” and added, “We will focus on providing a more meaningful user experience by expanding the Galaxy ecosystem experience based on Samsung’s mobile leadership and collaboration with partner companies.”
The new AI glasses are scheduled to be released in the second half of this year, and specific specifications plan to be revealed later.
