Samsung Electronics Co. has officially unveiled its artificial intelligence (AI) smart glasses, positioning them as a competitor to Meta Platforms Inc.’s AI-powered smart eyewear.
Samsung Electronics and Google LLC unveiled two Android extended reality (XR)-based AI glasses at Google I/O 2026 conference on Tuesday, local time, at Google headquarters in California.
This marks the first time the companies have publicly revealed the actual design of the AI glasses since announcing partnerships in December 2025 with global eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.
The newly introduced AI glasses are designed as companion devices that complement the core functions of Galaxy AI smartphones, allowing users to experience AI seamlessly in everyday life without needing to take out their phones.
Although the new AI glasses do not include a display, they are equipped with speakers, cameras, and microphones. This enables the device to understand the user’s situation in real time and execute various convenience functions entirely through voice commands, without manual controls.
For example, users can activate Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, through their connected smartphones to receive navigation guidance to destinations without looking at their phones.
The glasses can also recommend nearby cafes and even assist with ordering drinks using only voice interaction.
In addition to real-time voice translation that reflects the tone of a conversation partner’s speech, the glasses can also translate visible text – such as menus or signs – and read it aloud to the user.
The new AI glasses are scheduled for release in the second half of this year, with detailed specifications to be announced later.
