OpenAI announced Thursday that its AI coding assistant Codex is being added to the ChatGPT mobile app for iOS and Android.
The company said the rollout will begin as a preview version, allowing users to manage coding tasks remotely through their smartphones.
Codex is designed to help developers complete a range of programming functions, including generating new features, answering questions about codebases, fixing software bugs and proposing pull requests for review.
The mobile integration allows users to stay connected to machines running Codex, making it possible to monitor progress, approve changes and launch new assignments while away from their computers.
The move reflects increasing competition among AI firms seeking to attract enterprise customers through coding-focused products. OpenAI faces growing pressure from rivals such as Anthropic, whose Claude Code platform has gained popularity among developers in recent months.
