According to related industries on the 24th, starting with LG U+, SK Telecom will hold a general shareholders’ meeting on the 26th and KT on the 31st, respectively.
KT plans to nominate Park Yoon-young as its CEO to normalize its management. Under the leadership of Kim Young-sup, KT’s management activities have been virtually suspended. The company skipped reorganization and executive appointment, which are usually held at the end of every year, and Kim is the only CEO among the three telecom companies who failed to attend the Mobile World Congress 2026.
If candidate Park is officially appointed as the representative this time, it is expected that he will quickly implement reorganization and executive personnel management to normalize management. As decisions are made throughout the management based on the central point of being a representative, management activities are expected to accelerate.
KT’s board of directors will also be reorganized. Park Hyun-jin, CEO of KT Millie, will be appointed as an inside director, Kwon Myung-sook, former CEO of Intel Korea, Kim Young-han, a professor of electronic information engineering at Soongsil University who heads the 6G Core Network Research Center, and Seo Jin-seok, former CEO of EY Han-young, will be appointed as outside directors.
At the general shareholders’ meeting, SK Telecom will appoint CEO Jeong Jae-hun and MNO CIC Chairman Han Myung-jin as new inside directors, while SK Supex Pursuit Council President Yoon Poong-young as other non-executive directors. In addition, Lim Tae-seop, a professor of SKK GSB at Sungkyunkwan University (former Korean co-CEO of Goldman Sachs), a global capital market expert, and Lee Seong-yeop, a professor of the Graduate School of Technology and Management at Korea University, will be newly appointed as outside directors. Oh Hye-yeon, a professor of computer science at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), who heads the global cooperation division of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee, will be reappointed as outside directors.
Through this appointment, SK Telecom is interpreted as showing its willingness to strengthen AI, global governance, and data legislation capabilities and lay the foundation for regulatory response.
At this shareholders’ meeting, LG Uplus will re-elect Yeo Myung-hee, vice president of LG Uplus, and Um Yoon-mi, chairman of Asan Nanum Foundation, as internal and external directors, respectively. Song Min-seop, a professor of business administration at Sogang University, an accounting expert, will be newly appointed as an outside director, and Lee Sang-woo, head of LG's management strategy division, will be newly appointed as other non-executive directors.
In particular, LG Uplus will vote on adding new data center design, construction and operation (DBO) projects to the business purposes under the articles of incorporation. It is interpreted as an indication of its willingness to expand its data center business, which is considered a future food source.
Ahn Jung-sang, an adjunct professor at Chung-Ang University’s Graduate School of Communication, said, “In the case of KT, there were ups and downs in management due to the coexistence of the new representative candidate and the current representative.”
