27-inch 540/720Hz DFR OLED monitor panel earns SID’s “Display of the Year”
LG Display’s ‘27-inch 540/720Hz (DFR) OLED Gaming Monitor’
LG Display announced on April 29 that its ‘27-inch 540/720Hz (DFR) OLED Gaming Monitor’ panel has won the ‘Display of the Year’ award, the highest honor from the SID (Society for Information Display).
This is the most prestigious award selected by SID, conferred upon the single most innovative product released in the previous year that is expected to lead the future of the industry.
The ‘27-inch 540/720Hz (DFR) OLED Gaming Monitor’ is characterized by its application of LG Display’s proprietary technology, ‘DFR (Dynamic Frequency & Resolution),’ which allows users to freely select their desired mode.
▲ The High Refresh Rate Mode demonstrates its true value in game genres that require rapid screen transitions, such as FPS (First-Person Shooter) or racing games, where split-second decisions determine victory or defeat. It supports 720Hz (HD), the highest level currently available, which eliminates ghosting and motion blur for overwhelming gaming performance.
▲ The High-Resolution Mode provides a visual experience optimized for games based on brilliant graphics. It simultaneously delivers QHD resolution and a 540Hz refresh rate. Notably, to overcome the existing limitation where image quality degrades when the refresh rate exceeds 500Hz, the company developed and applied a proprietary algorithm, thereby securing the two key elements of high refresh rate and high image quality.
Through this, it received the ‘ClearMR (Clear Motion Ratio) 21,000’ certification, the highest rating from the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA).
Choi Young-seok, CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of LG Display, stated, “As a technology-centric company, we will continue to research and develop innovative OLED technologies based on our differentiated technological capabilities to lead the gaming display market.”
Meanwhile, SID is the world’s largest display academic conference, attended by over 7,000 experts, researchers, and professors from the global display industry. Each year, it showcases new technologies and products and presents research papers. This year’s event will be held in Los Angeles, USA, on May 3.
