LG CNS unveils AI-powered robot platform for factories, logistics

LG CNS on Thursday unveiled its new robot transformation platform brand “Physical Works,” aiming to accelerate the deployment of AI-powered robots across manufacturing and logistics sites.

The South Korean IT solutions provider introduced the platform during its RX Media Day event at LG Science Park in Seoul’s Magok district, describing it as an all-in-one system that supports robot training, verification, operation and integrated control.

“Robots are evolving beyond simple automation equipment into entities that can actually carry out production and operational tasks,” said Hyun Shin-gyoon, chief executive of LG CNS. “The key is enabling robots to understand real-world tasks and perform them reliably.”

Physical Works consists of two main systems: “Physical Works Forge,” designed for robot training, and “Physical Works Baton,” which oversees and coordinates multiple robots in the field.

Forge functions as a robot training platform where operators can remotely control robots to gather real-world data while also generating simulation data in virtual environments. The collected information is then filtered and organized by AI. LG CNS said the system could reduce the time required for robot deployment from several months to as little as one or two months.

Baton serves as an integrated robot control system capable of managing different types of robots, including wheeled robots, quadruped robots, autonomous mobile robots and unmanned transport robots, regardless of manufacturer or operating interface.

The platform allows operators to monitor robot locations, assigned tasks, battery conditions and operational status through a unified control system. LG CNS estimates that applying Baton to a robot fleet of around 100 units could improve productivity by more than 15 percent while cutting operating costs by up to 18 percent.

The company also highlighted the use of agentic AI technology. If a robot malfunctions or equipment stops operating, the AI system can reorganize workflows automatically, reallocating tasks to other robots or redesigning logistics routes when conveyor systems fail.

LG CNS said it is initially targeting manufacturing and logistics environments where repetitive or hazardous work can be automated more quickly. Potential applications include handling hazardous materials in chemical and battery plants, transporting empty boxes in logistics centers and welding operations in shipbuilding yards facing labor shortages.

The company emphasized that its role is not to manufacture robot hardware but to optimize existing robots for industrial sites by training them with workplace data and operational manuals.

“LG CNS does not build robot hardware,” Hyun said. “Our role is to source well-developed hardware, train it with site-specific data and operational manuals, and monitor and manage robot operations.”

Physical Works is currently undergoing proof-of-concept projects with more than 20 clients. Hyun said the company expects visible business results within about two years and plans to gradually expand overseas after completing verification at South Korean factories.
