The Korean Society for Preventive Medicine (KSPM) said Thursday that it participated in the annual meeting of the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM), held in Baltimore, Maryland, from last Thursday to Sunday, to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation in preventive medicine.

Professor Yoon Seok-jun of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Korea University College of Medicine serves as chair of KSPM.

During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the ACPM annual conference, the two organizations exchanged views on key issues facing the preventive medicine communities in Korea and the United States, as well as future opportunities for collaboration. ACPM also officially announced its partnership with KSPM through a press release.

The discussions covered a wide range of cooperative initiatives, including academic exchanges, joint research, personnel exchange programs and policy collaboration in preventive medicine.

In particular, the two sides shared experiences and policy examples related to major preventive medicine priorities, including chronic disease prevention, health promotion, cancer screening and early diagnosis, community-based prevention strategies and restoring public trust in public health. Both organizations emphasized the importance of sustained international collaboration in addressing these challenges.

KSPM said the meeting provided an opportunity to share the latest trends in U.S. preventive medicine while establishing a foundation for connecting Korea’s academic and policy experience in preventive medicine with the global community.

The society added that the meeting could become an important starting point for expanding international joint research and academic networks in preventive medicine.

“This meeting with the ACPM leadership was a meaningful opportunity for the preventive medicine communities of Korea and the United States to recognize shared challenges and confirm the potential for practical cooperation,” KSPM Chair Yoon said. “We will continue to expand international academic exchange and collaborative efforts in preventive medicine.”
