Kolmar Korea has developed a new anti-aging cosmetic material that selectively removes a substance associated with skin aging, applying a principle similar to targeted cancer therapy and drug delivery system (DDS) technology to cosmetics.

The company said it developed the antioxidant material Tocopherol-Oxalate-Tocopherol (TOT) through joint research with a team led by Professor Lee Dong-won of the Department of Polymer Nano Science & Technology at Jeonbuk National University.
Kolmar Korea also implemented a delivery technology that combines the material with its smart liposome drug delivery system, allowing the antioxidant substance to be stably delivered to the dermal layer. The research was selected as the cover paper for the April 2026 issue of Molecules, an SCI-level international journal, in recognition of its technological innovation.
TOT is a convergence material designed by applying targeted treatment concepts used in pharmaceuticals to cosmetics. It is structured by linking two vitamin E, or tocopherol, molecules with a peroxalate linker. When the material encounters hydrogen peroxide, a skin-aging-related substance, the bond breaks and releases vitamin E.
The mechanism enables the material to target and remove substances associated with skin aging, rather than providing general antioxidant effects.
To deliver the efficacy of TOT to the dermal layer, Kolmar Korea applied its proprietary DDS-based smart liposome technology. The system encapsulates TOT in fine liposome capsules and helps deliver it deeper into the skin, allowing the material to act more effectively in removing aging-related substances in the dermis.
In experiments, Kolmar Korea confirmed that when TOT was applied in an environment containing hydrogen peroxide, the concentration of hydrogen peroxide fell by more than 40 percent within 30 minutes. The company also found that TOT effectively inhibited cellular damage associated with aging even at one-tenth the amount of ordinary vitamin E.
Kolmar Korea plans to develop a premium anti-aging cosmetics line using the technology as part of its push into the global market.
“This new material reflects Kolmar Korea’s accumulated technology to address the fundamental causes of aging by combining pharmaceutical and cosmetic technologies,” a company official said. “As global interest in healthy skin continues to grow, we plan to continue introducing targeted anti-aging cosmetics through R&D that converges with pharmaceutical technologies.”
