South Korean automaker Kia Corp. will support a river cleanup project in Los Angeles, the United States, led by its global partner, The Ocean Cleanup.
Kia said on Friday that The Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch non-profit organization, held a media event at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California, on Wednesday, local time, to officially announce plans to expand its river cleanup project in the Los Angeles area.
The core of the project is to expand the installation of interceptor facilities that collect plastic waste before it flows into the ocean, thereby improving marine water quality and environmental pollution in the Pacific Ocean.
Along with the expansion plans for projects in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas, the organization also shared the operational achievements of Interceptor 007.
The Ocean Cleanup has already prevented more than 175 tons of waste from entering the ocean by operating Interceptor 007 on Ballona Creek in Los Angeles.
