HD KSOE wins 2.1 tln won worth of orders to build 8 vessels

SEOUL, May 8 (Yonhap) -- HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. (KSOE) said Friday it has secured orders worth a combined 2.1 trillion won (US$1.4 billion) to build six container ships and two gas carriers.

HD KSOE, the shipbuilding subholding company of HD Hyundai Co., said it signed a 1.78 trillion-won contract with an unidentified Asian customer to build six container ships, along with a 352.1 billion-won deal with an Oceania-based customer for two very large gas carriers.

The vessels will be built at HD Hyundai Industries Co.'s shipyard and are scheduled for delivery by 2029.

With the latest orders, HD KSOE has clinched deals worth a combined $10.81 billion for 94 ships so far this year, achieving 46.4 percent of its annual order target.

The company's order backlog for 2026 includes 26 container ships, 26 petroleum product carriers, and 20 liquefied petroleum gas and ammonia carriers.
