Dong-A ST announced on April 24 that from April 22 to 23, it visited MCM Hospital and Eunpa Basic Care Clinic in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, to donate ‘Dr. Noun’ and prescription drugs, and also conducted a sampling of ‘Hykardi’ at Black Lion National Hospital.
The donation ceremony was attended by Jeong Jae-hun, President of Dong-A ST; Kim Seong-jung, CEO of MID (Myeongsung International Development); Kang Hee-soo, Vice President of MCM Hospital; and Oh Jun-ho, Head of Division at Mediwhale, among others.
Dong-A ST will donate ‘Dr. Noun’, an AI software for predicting cardiovascular disease and assisting in the diagnosis of eye diseases, worth approximately 100 million won, to MCM Hospital (Myungsung Christian Medical Center). The company also plans to provide ongoing training for the medical staff.
It will provide prescription drugs worth approximately 50 million won to Eunpa Basic Care Clinic. The specific medicines will be selected and delivered in consultation with local medical staff to ensure they meet the essential needs of the residents.
On April 23, at Black Lion National Hospital (TASH, Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital), in cooperation with the Seoul National University College of Medicine JW Lee Center for Global Medicine, a sampling of the remote patient monitoring system ‘Hykardi’ was conducted. The SNU College of Medicine JW Lee Center for Global Medicine has been running the ‘Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Capacity Building Project’ at Black Lion National Hospital, training local medical staff for the past 10 years to enable them to independently perform complex heart surgeries.
MCM Hospital, known as the “Korean Hospital” in Ethiopia, was established in 2004 by Myungsung Church for the people of Ethiopia who lack access to medical benefits. It provides free medical services to Korean War veterans and continues to train medical professionals and offer free medical volunteer services through its medical college.
Eunpa Basic Care Clinic provides medical services for Ethiopian residents who cannot receive proper treatment due to financial difficulties. Black Lion National Hospital is an affiliated hospital of the Addis Ababa University College of Medicine and is the largest national hospital in Ethiopia.
Jeong Jae-hun, President of Dong-A ST, stated, “By visiting the local medical institutions in Ethiopia, we were able to see firsthand the difficulties faced by medical staff and patients,” and added, “We aim to increase accessibility for patients with limited treatment opportunities through pharmaceutical support, and to improve the quality of medical services—from diagnosis and treatment to post-treatment management—through digital healthcare solutions.”
