Competition in South Korea’s enterprise ChatGPT market is intensifying as major system integration companies race to secure partnerships with OpenAI amid growing corporate demand for generative artificial intelligence services.
Following Samsung SDS and LG CNS, SK AX has now joined OpenAI’s partner network, underscoring the accelerating push among South Korean IT service providers to bring generative AI into real-world business operations.
SK AX said Thursday that it signed a service partner agreement with OpenAI for enterprise AI business cooperation.
Under the partnership, SK AX will provide deployment and operational services tailored to each company’s work environment and security requirements using ChatGPT Enterprise.
ChatGPT Enterprise is a corporate generative AI platform that offers internal data protection, privacy safeguards, advanced data analysis capabilities and customized features for enterprise customers.
SK AX said it plans to focus on improving workplace productivity by integrating the platform into companies’ internal systems and operational workflows.
The company also emphasized its ability to support the full AI transformation process, ranging from consulting and internal system integration to multi-agent deployment and operations, security and governance establishment and employee change management.
“Rather than simply introducing AI tools, we aim to support true AI transformation by redesigning corporate structures, workflows, working methods and governance systems,” SK AX Chief Executive Kim Wan-jong said.
Anthony Russell, director of partnerships for Asia Pacific at OpenAI, said enterprise AI services must operate in line with each company’s workflow and system structure while maintaining strong security and data controls.
“SK AX is a partner capable of applying AI to actual business operations based on its understanding and experience across industry-specific systems and data structures,” Russell said.
The latest agreement expands the group of South Korean companies directly partnering with OpenAI in the enterprise AI market.
Among domestic system integration and AI companies, SK AX became the fourth company to secure OpenAI service partner status after Samsung SDS, LG CNS and Corka.
Samsung SDS and LG CNS have also obtained ChatGPT Enterprise reseller status, allowing them to handle both licensing sales and deployment operations.
Industry observers say companies with OpenAI partner status may gain earlier access to new AI models and tools while building hands-on deployment experience across industries.
According to the IT industry, OpenAI service partners may also benefit from lower GPT usage costs and opportunities to collaborate directly with OpenAI’s technology and marketing teams on enterprise projects.
The rapid expansion of South Korea’s AI-as-a-service market is also intensifying competition.
According to IDC Korea, the country’s AIaaS market is expected to grow from 3.9 trillion won ($2.61 billion) in 2024 to 6.5 trillion won next year.
Mid-sized cloud companies MegazoneCloud and Bespin Global are also reportedly pursuing partnerships with OpenAI, although neither has officially finalized an agreement.
