[June 3 Local Elections] 1,558,206 Voters Confirmed for the 9th Local Elections in Jeonnam… Continued Downward Trend Due to Population Decline

Approximately 1.55 million registered residents eligible to vote, including 1,711 foreign voters - A decrease of 21,892 compared to the 8th Local Elections 4 years ago… Suncheon has the most, Gurye the fewest

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The total number of voters in Jeollanam-do who will exercise their voting rights in the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections to be held on June 3 has been finally confirmed at 1,558,206. This figure represents a noticeable decrease in the number of voters compared to previous elections, due to the impact of continuous population decline. According to the Jeonnam Provincial Election Commission and other sources, the finalized number of voters in the Jeonnam region is the sum of 1,555,186 registered residents, 1,309 registered overseas nationals (those who entered the country for the purpose of residing for 30 days or more and have been registered on the resident registration list for at least 3 months), and 1,711 foreign voters (those who have held permanent residency status for 3 years).

This number of voters has decreased by 21,892 compared to the 8th Local Elections held four years ago in 2022 (1,580,098). Furthermore, it is 1,225 fewer than the 21st Presidential Election in 2025 (1,559,431), which took place just one year ago. The number of voters has fallen to its lowest level among recent major elections held in Jeonnam, including the 22nd National Assembly election in 2024 (1,565,232 voters), clearly demonstrating the pressure of regional extinction and population decline in the electoral roll.

Looking at the breakdown by gender, male voters numbered approximately 790,000 (50.6%), slightly more than female voters at approximately 770,000 (49.4%).

The polarization of voters by city and county was also evident. Among the 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam, Suncheon City had the largest number of voters, totaling approximately 235,000 (15.1%), making it a major pillar of the province's overall voting sentiment. Conversely, Gurye County had the fewest voters, with only about 22,000 (1.4%), revealing a voter gap of more than tenfold between the two regions.
