“The Happiness of 10,000 Won”... Jeonnam Gwangju’s ‘Garden of Light’ Public Wedding Venue Becomes a Hot Topic

Relieves the Burden of Soaring Wedding Costs and Creates a Unique Ceremony; From the Government Complex Lawn and Rose Garden to the Human Resources Training Center... Relaxed 진행 with ‘Once a Day’

(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Amidst rising wedding costs and reservation burdens for couples planning autumn and winter weddings due to persistently high inflation, Jeonnam Gwangju’s ‘public wedding spaces’ are drawing attention as a reasonable and special alternative.

Jeonnam Gwangju announced on the 9th that it is operating the ‘Garden of Light,’ which includes the lawn plaza, the Citizen Hall on the first floor, and the Rose Garden within the Gwangju Government Complex, as wedding venues for citizens.

The biggest advantages of the Garden of Light are its exceptionally low cost and high degree of autonomy. The usage fee is merely 10,000 won per day for the outdoor plaza and 10,000 won per two hours for indoor spaces (heating and cooling costs separate). The venue is well-equipped with basic amenities such as parking lots and restrooms, and guests can create a unique, customized wedding by personally planning props and floral decorations.

Guest receptions can also be prepared economically by utilizing the on-site cafeteria for simple meals (noodles for 5,000 won per person) or through outdoor catering. The facility is equipped with contingency plans to immediately switch to an indoor space in the event of sudden weather deterioration during an outdoor ceremony.

The response has been enthusiastic. At the Garden of Light, eight couples held their weddings last year, three in the first half of this year, and six more have already completed reservations for the second half.

In addition, the Welfare Hall at the Gwangju Human Resources Training Center is also opening as a public wedding venue on weekends and holidays, expanding the range of options. The Welfare Hall, with a capacity of 80 seats, features a bridal waiting room, a reception area with 152 seats, and a parking lot for 280 vehicles; the usage fee is 30,000 won. The cafeteria space is provided free of charge when using the catering buffet.

Public wedding halls are available for application to any citizen of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. In the case of the Gwangju Human Resources Education Center Welfare Hall, priority and fee waivers are provided to vulnerable groups, such as recipients of basic livelihood support and multicultural families. To ensure a smooth process, the facility operates on a "one reservation per day" system, and applications can be made starting six months prior to the wedding date via phone, in-person visits, or through the Gongyunuri website.

Moon Gil-sang, Director of the General Affairs Division of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City, stated, "I hope that opening the City Hall and public institutions will serve as a realistic and comforting alternative for couples struggling with soaring wedding costs," adding, "We will continue to provide support to spread a reasonable and healthy wedding culture."
