Chungju City Public Health Center Receives Governor's Commendation for Rapid Epidemiological Investigations and Customized Tuberculosis Programs

Chungju City has once again demonstrated its administrative capacity for disease control, protecting the health and safety of residents, by being selected as the top-performing institution in the infectious disease prevention and management project evaluation conducted by North Chungcheong Province.

The Chungju City Public Health Center received the highest score in the province in the 2026 North Chungcheong Province Infectious Disease Prevention and Management Project evaluation and was awarded an institutional commendation by the North Chungcheong Provincial Governor on the 28th.

This evaluation was conducted on public health centers in cities and counties within the province. The final award recipients were determined through a comprehensive review of nine quantitative indicators, such as compliance rates with reporting deadlines for statutory infectious diseases and the completeness of epidemiological investigations, as well as two qualitative indicators, including best practices in infectious disease prevention and management.

Chungju received high marks for its ability to identify sources of infection and contacts early through rapid reporting and precise epidemiological investigations whenever statutory infectious diseases occurred, while simultaneously blocking the spread within the community early through close cooperation with relevant agencies. In particular, the center was evaluated as having outstanding field-oriented crisis management capabilities, such as activating a preemptive infectious disease response system during large-scale local events or festivals.

Furthermore, it enhanced effectiveness by establishing a multi-dimensional disease control network that spans from pre-prevention to post-incident measures, including the deployment of specialized personnel, disinfection of vulnerable areas, vaccination management, and promotion of preventive guidelines to residents.

The most notable aspect of this evaluation was the "Tuberculosis Patient Nutrition Support Project," the first of its kind in Chungbuk Province. This project is a close-knit program that delivers customized nutritional packages to tuberculosis patients while simultaneously providing medication guidance, health monitoring, and emotional support. It achieved remarkable results, with not a single instance of participants abandoning or discontinuing their medication midway.

Taking this award as an opportunity, the Chungju City Public Health Center plans to further advance its response system to keep pace with threats from emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, and to create a safe local environment by strengthening public-private cooperation and expanding resident education. Baek Hyun-sook, Director of the Chungju City Public Health Center, expressed her sentiments, stating that this award is a valuable achievement created by the staff who have silently worked hard for the safety of citizens on the front lines. She emphasized that they will continue to thoroughly protect the health of citizens by operating a tight quarantine network that responds swiftly to variant infectious diseases and preemptively blocks risk factors.
