Chungju City Secures 6 Billion Won in State Funding for ‘Manufacturing AX Industry-Academic Innovation Park’… Accelerating Construction of Physical AI Ecosystem

Chungju City has secured a powerful driving force for the Artificial Intelligence (AX) transformation of the local manufacturing industry and the creation of a Physical AI industry ecosystem by attracting a project from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Chungju announced that it has secured 6 billion won in state funding after the consortium of the Chungbuk Energy Industry-Academic Convergence Institute and the Chungbuk Institute of Science and Technology Innovation was selected as the final project implementer in the '2026 Manufacturing AX Industry-Academic Innovation Park' competition for Smart Green Industrial Complexes, conducted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

This project, spearheaded by the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, will run for three years from July 2026 to December 2028, with a total budget of 7 billion won, including 6 billion won in state funding and local funds. The implementing organizations are scheduled to finalize the agreement at the end of July and begin full-scale project implementation starting this coming August.

Chungju City Secures 6 Billion Won in State Funding for ‘Manufacturing AX Industry-Academic Innovation Park’… Accelerating Construction of Physical AI Ecosystem

Chungju City has secured 6 billion won in state funding for the '2026 Manufacturing AX Industry-Academic Innovation Park' competition targeting Smart Green Industrial Complexes, which was conducted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The project base will be established at the Multi-Cultural Center within the Chungju 1st Industrial Complex. High-performance GPU-based computing equipment rooms and manufacturing AX training rooms will be built there, and training on industrial robot operation utilizing physical AI-related equipment, such as autonomous robots, will be conducted. In particular, customized workforce training programs, including advanced AI-based manufacturing automation courses and expert field training, will be intensively operated. Furthermore, the city plans to provide AX consulting and support for industry-academia projects to improve processes for aging production facilities targeting companies within the industrial complex, and to establish and operate an integrated education and infrastructure management platform.

This project is directly linked to the "Establishment of a Physical AI Innovation Cluster," the first project approved by the Mayor of Chungju during the 9th popular election term. Chungju City anticipates that this project will provide solid support for smart process innovation in terms of workforce development by introducing robot and automation education to local manufacturing sites and providing demonstration support. During the project period, comprehensive support will be provided with the goals of facilitating 90 instances of shared infrastructure utilization, 6 demonstration projects in industry-academia-research collaboration, the completion of specialized training for 300 employees, and 50 instances of customized consulting for companies. Chungju Mayor Lee Dong-seok explained that thanks to organic cooperation with relevant agencies, a hub for AI transition essential to the local manufacturing industry has been established in Chungju. He emphasized that he would actively support tenant companies in transforming into high-efficiency smart production processes by seamlessly implementing education, consulting, and industry-academia collaboration projects tailored to on-site needs.

Chungju plans to continue enhancing the competitiveness of its region's advanced industries by promoting the creation of Smart Green Industrial Complexes that significantly boost productivity through the integration of digital technology and eco-friendly elements into traditional industrial complexes.
