Chungju City Holds 1st Community Dementia Council Meeting of 2026
Shift to Prevention-Focused Approach… Strengthening Early Identification of High-Risk Groups and Lifestyle-Oriented Management
The Chungju City Public Health Center’s Dementia Relief Center held the “1st Community Dementia Council Meeting of 2026” on the 28th, with the participation of local dementia-related institutions and experts.
The meeting was organized to share the achievements of the 2025 dementia management projects and to deliberate and discuss the 2026 implementation plan in accordance with the 5th Comprehensive Dementia Management Plan (2026–2030).
Last year, the city conducted early dementia screenings for 6,400 people. Among them, 1,500 elderly individuals aged 75 or older living alone were identified as high-risk, and an integrated management system was established to connect them to the “Dementia One-Stop Service.” In addition, support for patients and their families was strengthened through the registration and management of 2,420 dementia patients, customized case management for 379 individuals, and the operation of the "Memory Enhancement School," a respite center for dementia patients.
Furthermore, the city achieved significant results, including winning the Grand Prize at the Dementia Management Development Conference and being selected as an Outstanding Institution by Chungcheongbuk-do. This was accomplished by operating 40 Dementia-Friendly Pharmacies—the first of their kind in Chungcheongbuk-do—and promoting citizen-participatory awareness campaigns such as mock drills for preventing missing persons.
Based on these achievements, the consultative body decided at the meeting to shift the core direction of dementia management for 2026 from a focus on patient management to a policy centered on prevention.
Key initiatives include strengthening the early detection system for high-risk groups such as those with mild cognitive impairment, providing intensive care for elderly individuals living alone aged 75 or older, offering incentives for dementia screening tests, and reinforcing rights protection through public guardianship and property management support.
Moreover, the city plans to expand lifestyle-oriented dementia management services by strengthening cooperation among local resources—such as public health sub-centers, clinics, pharmacies, and welfare agencies—centered around Dementia Relief Centers. "A health center official stated, 'Dementia is not a problem for individuals and families, but a challenge that the community must solve together,' adding, 'We will continue to do our best to create a Chungju where people with dementia can live with peace of mind by establishing a dementia management system that is tightly connected from prevention to care and the protection of rights.'"
