“Retaining Youth and Revitalizing the Region”… Up to 4.5 Million Won in Support for Businesses Hiring Youth as Part-time Workers
Tongyeong City Launches ‘Settlement Package’ Covering Jobs, Housing, and Tuition
Tongyeong City is significantly expanding its ‘Youth Settlement Package’ policy, which links youth employment with support for housing and education. A key feature is its focus on establishing a foundation for local settlement, moving beyond the support of short-term jobs.
The city announced on the 8th that it will implement the ‘2026 Youth Part-time Job Support Project’ to expand job experience for job seekers and young people in vulnerable employment groups.
This project is a system that provides partial labor cost support to small local businesses that newly hire youth part-time workers, aiming to simultaneously revitalize youth employment and alleviate labor shortages for small business owners.
Eligibility applies to businesses with fewer than five permanent employees that have hired or plan to newly hire youth (aged 18–45) part-time workers since January 1, 2023. Workplaces will receive support of up to 500,000 won per worker per month for a maximum of three months, with a maximum of three people allowed to apply per workplace. The maximum support amount is 4.5 million won.
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis starting on the 11th until the 15 million won budget is exhausted.
In addition to job support, Tongyeong City is also expanding lifestyle-oriented policies to help young people settle in the region. Starting on the 18th, the city will implement the "Out-of-City Youth Settlement Support Project," which provides up to 200,000 won per month in rent support for six months to single-person youth households without their own homes who have moved to Tongyeong for employment or entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, the city is promoting the "Youth Employment Preparation Support Project," which supports certification training fees and exam fees for unemployed or non-entrepreneurial youth, and the "To Young Box Support Project," which provides daily necessities to young households that have moved into the area.
Policies to alleviate the burden of education costs are also being expanded. The city has expanded the eligibility for its tuition support program, which covers a minimum of 30% to a maximum of 100% of the student's tuition burden, to include all students from their first to fourth year this year; as of now, 1,929 people have applied.
A city official stated, "We plan to continuously expand support in the fields of employment, housing, and education so that young people can live and grow stably in Tongyeong," adding, "We look forward to active participation from both youth and local businesses."
